Grapevine
Studies
MISSION
Our mission at Grapevine Studies is to
provide believers the
tools they need to know God's word and disciple others. With
our teaching method
and Bible curriculums,
parents and teachers can effectively disciple their children
and students
so they are equipped to reach the world with the truth of the
Gospel.
HISTORY
“It’s so simple it’s
brilliant!” exclaimed a father as he stood at our booth in
Denver
,
Colorado
. What was he referring to? The Grapevine Studies Bible
curriculum in which we use stick figures to teach the Bible.
Grapevine Studies began in a
Vacation
Bible
School
in southern
Idaho
. I (Dianna) was asked to teach a class of fifteen to twenty,
3rd-4th grade girls during a hot summer week. This was a
unique class because our teaching time was to be two hours
long. I soon realized the materials I had been given would not
hold the groups interest for that long. I also knew that
I would have the unchurched and the overchurched (those who
knew ALL the stories and were only there because their parents
made them go). So I went to prayer for a creative way to teach
the lessons and present the Gospel effectively.
As I prayed I remembered hearing Ken
Ham of Answers in
Genesis speak about presenting the Gospel beginning in
Genesis. This led me on a fascinating study of the Gospel in
the Old Testament. Then I prayed, asking God to show me how to
teach the girls the Bible from Genesis to Revelation in a
fresh, creative way. God gave me the idea of a timeline and I
remembered doing stick figures in a Precept
course I had taken. Combining those two ideas, I started to
draw and write down verses. It was incredible to see the
drawings the Lord gave me as I fleshed out the Bible timeline
and VBS lessons.
The real surprise came when I taught
the lessons using the stick figures and timelines. I did
not loose any of the girls to boredom and they were all
excited-which made me excited! Best of all they were learning
and remembering the lesson. By the end of the week the
girls were able to tell other adults the timeline (Genesis to
Revelation) and the Gospel — which they had learned in four
days!
The following year our family moved to
Wyoming
and our new church allowed us to pilot a one year program
using the timeline and stick figure idea. After a one year
study of the Old Testament the students (grades 3 to 6) could
independently draw the Old Testament timeline and tell us
facts about each character and event, while inserting key
words into their memory verses (from the entire year) with a
94.5% retention rate. We stood amazed! This became our first
book, the Old
Testament Overview.
Our books now cover ages five to adult
and range from an introduction to the Bible to an inductive
Bible study. To date we have twenty-one books in print and
plan to release nine smaller Bible studies this coming year.
We are excited to announce that we have begun the translation
of our books into Spanish and hope to begin releasing these
books in late 2007.
GOAL
Grapevine Studies curriculums are being
used in homes, homeschools,
Christian
Schools
and churches on five continents. We are used in more than
fifteen different denominations because we enable the
parent/teacher to convey their personal/church doctrine and
use their favorite version of the Bible.
Our goal is to provide effective tools
for parents/teachers to disciple their children/ students. Our
desire is to give students a big picture of the Bible while
putting into context biblical characters and events. We want
to help parents and teachers disciple those the Lord has
entrusted to their care by providing easy to use and effective
materials.
We have attempted to give teachers an
easy to prepare curriculum from which they can see immediate
results. We have found students enjoy it because it engages
both the intellect and imagination. One surprise was finding
how effectively it has worked with children of all abilities
including those who have learning problems or disabilities.
As we look back over the history of
Grapevine Studies we stand amazed at what God has done! We are
anxious to see what He will do in the future!
