
Bible Timeline Events in April 2023
What took place on the Bible timeline in the month of April? April on our calendar coincides this year with the first month on the biblical calendar named Nisan. Nisan is full of holidays, Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits. On the Christian calendar we have Holy week culminating in the wonderful celebration of the Resurrection! Get ready to mark your calendar!
Today, let’s look back at what God has done in history as we watch current history being written.
April 1- Nisan 10
- Lamb Selection Day: In preparation for Passover, each family chose a lamb for a sacrifice. The lamb would stay with the family for four days, until it was sacrificed for Passover. Exodus 12:3
- Miriam Died: On Nisan 10, 1274, Miriam, sister to Moses, died. She died nearly one year before Moses died. She was buried in Kadesh.Numbers 20:1
- Jordan Crossing: After three days of preparation, the children of Israel crossed the Jordan River into the Promised Land and set up camp near Gilgal. Joshua 4:19
April 2 – Nisan 11
- Jesus Cleansed the Temple: During the last few days of Jesus’ life, He visited the Temple. While there He overturned the tables of those who were using the area of the Temple to buy and sell. Matthew 21:12-17.
April 3 – Nisan 12
- Ahava: Ezra and the second group of returning captives departed from the River of Ahava on this day as they made their way from Babylon to Jerusalem. Ezra 8:31
April 4 – Nisan 13
- Haman: The Bible records Haman casting lots on this day to determine the date of destruction for the Jews living in Ancient Persia. Once the date was set, he issued the death decree that was sent throughout the kingdom. Esther 3:12
- Maundy Thursday: Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday is the day on the Christian calendar to commemorate the last meal Jesus shared with His disciples before His crucifixion. Mark 14:12-26
- The First Passover: On the evening of Nisan 14, the Hebrews living in Egypt killed their lambs, put blood on their doors, and ate their Passover meals. Leviticus 23:5
- Plague of the First Born: On this night, every first-born living in a home without the blood of the lamb on his doors died. Exodus 12:29
April 6 – Nisan 15
- The Exodus from Egypt: Following the death of his son, Pharaoh ordered the Hebrews to leave Egypt. On Nisan 15 the children of Israel departed from Egypt for the Promised Land. Exodus 12:31-32
- Maundy Thursday: Holy Thursday or Maundy Thursday is the day on the Christian calendar to commemorate the last meal Jesus shared with His disciples before His crucifixion. Mark 14:12-26
- Passover: This is the first of four spring feasts on the biblical calendar. On this day both Jews and Christians celebrate God’s deliverance of the Hebrews from Egypt. As believers, we are reminded of our deliverance from sin by the blood of The Lamb of God!Exodus 12:1-14; Hebrews 9:11-15
- Unleavened Bread Begins: The Feast of Unleavened Bread, the second spring feast, begins today and continues for seven days. Exodus 12:14-20 and Leviticus 23:6
April 7- Nisan 16
- Feast of First Fruits: The third biblical spring feast is the Feast of First Fruits. It is celebrated the first day after the first Sabbath after Passover. This was a time to offer the first fruits of the spring harvest. Leviticus 23:9-14
- Good Friday: On the Christian calendar, Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday or Great Friday. Good Friday is remembered as the day Jesus was beaten, crucified, died, and was buried. For some, this is a day of fasting. Mark 15:1-16:6
April 9 – Nisan 18
- Resurrection Day: On this day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead! He is Risen!
April 12 – Nisan 21
- Red Sea Crossing: The Lord opened the Red Sea before the children of Israel, and they went through on dry ground on Nisan 21, 1312 BC. The army of Egypt was drowned as they chased the Hebrews into the water and the sea crashed over them. Exodus 14:21-30
April 13 – Nisan 22
- Unleavened Bread Ends: The seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread ends today. During this week unleavened bread is eaten to remember that the Hebrews left Egypt so quickly their bread did not have time to rise. Leviticus 3:6
- Jericho March Began: On Nisan 22, 1272 BC, Jewish history records that Joshua and his men began their march around the city of Jericho. They would march around Jericho for a total of seven days. Joshua 6:1-3
April 14 – Nisan 23
- Marah: According to Jewish history, this is the date on which the children of Israel camped at the bitter waters of Marah in the year 1312 BC. God told Moses how to make the bitter waters sweet. Exodus 15:23-25
April 15 – Nisan 24
- Jesus and His Disciples: After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples. He showed them the scars on this hands and feet, and ate with them. Luke 24:36-39
April 17 – Nisan 26
- Death of Joshua: Today marks the traditional date of the death of Joshua, son of Nun He was the disciple of Moses and led the children of Israel after the death of Moses .Joshua lived to be 110 years old and he is buried in the hill country of Ephraim. Judges 2:8
April 20 – Nisan 29
- Jericho Fell: After Joshua and his men walked around the walls of Jericho for seven days, God brought down the walls of Jericho on Nisan 29, according to Jewish history. Joshua 6:15-20
April 22 – Iyar 1
- Census: The Lord instructed Moses to take a census of the children of Israel the second year after leaving Egypt. Moses counted all the men, aged 20 and older, by tribe. Since this was a census for men of war, the Levites were excluded. Numbers 1:1-3
- Second Temple: The building of the Second Temple began in Jerusalem by Zerubbabel and those who returned with him from captivity in Babylon. The Second Temple was built on the exact location of the First Temple. Ezra 3:8
April 23 – Iyar 2
- First Temple Foundation: The Bible records this day as the start of building the First Temple. On this day the foundation of the Temple was started. The Temple was built on the land purchased by King David and the traditional location of the binding of Isaac. 2 Chronicles 3:2
- Jesus Appeared at the Sea: After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to seven of His disciples while they were shing on the Sea of Galilee. John 21:1
April 29 – Iyar 9
- Joseph’s Dream: According to Jewish tradition this is the date on which God gave Joseph the dream where the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed before him. Genesis 37:9
