Biblical Events in November 2019

Do you ever wonder when events took place during the year? Drawing from biblical references, Christian tradition, and Jewish history I have listed the events that take place this month. As you look at these events,

  • Read the related Bible verse
  • Talk about these with your friends and family
  • Share what you are learning

November 5 – Cheshvan 7
Praying for Rain: Three times a year all Jewish men were required to go to the Temple: Passover, Pentecost, and Feast of Tabernacles. Today marks the traditional day in Jewish history that people living in the Second Temple period would begin praying for rain. This allowed those who were traveling home from the last of the fall feasts, the Feast of Tabernacles, to reach home before the prayers for rain began.

November 9 – Cheshvan 11
Benjamin Born/Rachel Died: After giving birth to Benjamin, Rachel died on Cheshvan 11, 1553 BC. Rachel was the beloved wife of Jacob and mother to Joseph and Benjamin. Rachel is buried on the outskirts of Bethlehem. Genesis 35:16-20

November 13 – Cheshvan 15
Jeroboam: Contrary to God’s direction, King Jeroboam, son of Solomon, made Judah celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles one month later than instructed in Leviticus 23:33-43. 1 Kings 12:32

November 15 – Cheshvan 17
The Flood Subsided: After forty days and nights of rain, the floodwaters remained on the earth for 150 days after which the waters began to subside on the earth. Genesis 7:23-8:4

November 25 – Cheshvan 27
Cheshvan 27, 2104 BC, is the day Noah, his family, and the animals left the ark. The first thing Noah did after coming off the ark was to build an altar and offer a burnt offering to God. Genesis 8:15-19

November 25 – Cheshvan 27
New Moon/New Month: The month of Kislev begins today. Kislev is pronounced KISS-lev.
