Praying for Rain: Three times a year all Jewish men were required to go to the Temple: Passover, Pentecost, and Feast of Tabernacles. Today marks the traditional day in Jewish history that people living in the Second Temple period would begin praying for rain. This allowed those who were traveling home from the last of the fall feasts, the Feast of Tabernacles, to reach home before the prayers for rain began.
November 9 – Cheshvan 11
Benjamin Born/Rachel Died: After giving birth to Benjamin, Rachel died on Cheshvan 11, 1553 BC. Rachel was the beloved wife of Jacob and mother to Joseph and Benjamin. Rachel is buried on the outskirts of Bethlehem. Genesis 35:16-20
