Dates for New Testament Events – Part 4

This year we have looked at the historical dates for the New Testament. Primarily, I have use the book, Annals of World History by Bishop James Ussher for these dates. Dates can be added to our New Testament Overview studies or our Timelines.

The last part of the New Testament deals with things that do not have a specific date to attach to them. So, I am going to share with you some of my notes from when I teach this section of the timeline.

New Testament Part 7 Dates

Letters to the Churches

  • 33 AD to 95 AD
  • The Epistles are letters written to Churches established by the eleven apostles, Paul, and their disciples. These letters cover a great number of topics related to living the Christian life.

The Gospel Spreads

  • Beginning in Acts 2, the Gospel went forth from Jerusalem
  • Today the Gospel continues to spread around the world.
  • Not a verse but one of my favorite sayings regarding the spreading of the Gospel

It is not your duty to finish the work, but neither are you at liberty to neglect it. Avot 2:16

 The Great Tribulation

  • There is a time of great tribulation marked by three judgments: the seven seal judgments, seven trumpet judgments, and the seven bowl judgments.
  •  For older teens and adults I recommend studying the four primary ways the book of Revelation is understood. From there, to continue to study this book that promises a blessing for reading and hearing it.

 Jesus Returns:

  • There is a time of great tribulation marked by three judgments: the seven seal judgments, seven trumpet judgments, and the seven bowl judgments.
  • When He returns every eye will see Him!

The Millennium:

  • At the beginning of the millennium, Satan will be chained to the bottomless pit and will be unchained at the end of the millennium.
  • The millennium is a period of time in which Jesus reigns sovereign

The Judgment

  • At the white throne judgment, all mankind will stand before God and be judged.
  • After the book of Life is open, the other books will be opened
    • Judging your works – Revelation 20:13
    • Judging your words – Matthew 12:36

Hell

  • Hell was originally designed as a place of judgment of the devil and his angels.
  • It will also contain those who have rejected Jesus the Messiah.

Heaven

  • Heaven awaits believers in Jesus the Messiah and will be a place where God dwells among His people!

That completes the dates for the New Testament! It is my prayer that the Lord bless you as you study and teach the Bible timeline!
