Easy Self Care Tips for Busy Moms

Let’s face it, we all need help with self-care regardless of our age! As busy moms juggling countless responsibilities, how do we ensure we take care of ourselves? I’m excited to share seven simple and easy self-care tips that I’ve practiced over the years. As I go through each tip, I’d love to hear from you on how you might implement these into your life, or if you already do, what works for you!

1. Keep Your Spiritual Life Active

  • Read and Study Your Bible: Make time daily for Bible reading and reflection.
  • Pray: Keep a journal of prayers and note when they’re answered.
  • Engage in a Spiritual Community: Join a church, local Bible study, or women’s group.

Why: We are more than physical beings. A strong spiritual foundation helps navigate life’s twists and turns.

How: Find a quiet time each day to connect with God. Perhaps right after waking up or before bed works best for you.

2. Keep Your Family Relationships Strong

  • Husband: Prioritize your relationship with your husband. It’s easy to focus solely on the children, but maintaining a strong marriage is essential.
  • Children: Ensure you’re doing more than just school-related activities. Build fun, educational, and bonding activities into your routine.
  • Family Team: Foster a team spirit rather than competition among family members.

3. Take Time to Stay Healthy

  • Rest: Plan for a weekly day of rest. You’ll gain more than you lose. Our bodies need this downtime.
  • Diet: Avoid the quick and unhealthy food trap. Opt for easy nutritious meals and stay hydrated.
  • Exercise: Aim for at least three days of exercise a week. Include your kids if they’re young or take a class if they’re old enough to be left alone.

Why: We need all the mental and physical strength we can get to fulfill our mission on earth, especially as moms.

4. Keep Your Schedule Balanced

  • Ideal Week: Create an ideal week that includes schoolwork, housework, and time for the unexpected.
  • Say No: When asked to take on more, discuss it with your husband or a close friend first. If you must answer immediately, the answer is no.

Why: A balanced schedule brings order and peace to our families. God is a God of order, so seek His help if you struggle here.

5. Maintain Your Appearance

  • Daily Routine: Get up, get dressed, and do your hair and makeup. Even when feeling under the weather, a bit of effort can make a big difference.
  • Pampering: Make time for activities like getting your hair done, having a massage, or painting your nails.

Why: When we look ready for our day, we feel ready for our day. Plus, our husbands will appreciate the effort.

6. Watch Your Colors

  • Find Your Colors: Not all colors suit everyone. Discover what looks best on you and adjust your wardrobe and home décor accordingly.
  • Dress for Your Shape: Learn to dress in a way that flatters your body shape. No one wants to feel or look frumpy.
  • Educate Yourself: Spend time learning what works best for you at your current stage of life.

Why: Wearing colors and styles that suit you helps you feel more confident and productive.

7. Choose Your Attitude Wisely

  • Attitude is a Choice: We can’t control what happens to us, but we can control our response.
  • Choose Laughter: Often, we can choose between anger and laughter. Opt for laughter as much as possible.

Why: A positive attitude sets a great example for our children and improves our day-to-day experiences.
