Before Class
Nothing can replace the time a teacher spends in prayer with our Master Teacher, the Lord God Almighty. We also recommend you read the Scriptures and lesson notes before class.
Teaching Instructions
Teacher Notes
- Teacher notes, highlighted in green, provide key information to guide your teaching instructions.
- These notes cover the timeline helping you to cover all the important characters and events.
- Lesson notes are good for not only you as a teacher but also helpful for substitute teachers or anyone unfamiliar with the material.
- These notes give confidence to those who are new to the Bible. You can read the notes directly to students if needed.
Bible Dictionary
- Some words in the lessons are marked for lookup in a Bible dictionary.
- Understanding these terms will enhance your teaching and help answer student questions.
Maps
- Maps are a part of the study, adding depth to your lessons.
- Teacher and student maps are located at the back of their respective books.
Teaching the Timeline
Teacher Narrative
- The first lesson is a timeline overview. The teacher narrative in green explains what to teach for each timeline point.
- Use the notes as a guide, or read them aloud to students. Focus on the major events and their order.
- In subsequent lessons, students will dive deeper into the timeline’s characters and events.
- Read more on How to Teach the Bible Timeline.
Stick Figuring the Timeline
- Students will draw stick figure the characters and events onto the timeline, helping them see the big picture.
- Ask questions about the points on the timeline, this activity reveals how much students already know about the timeline characters and events.
Simplifying for Younger Students
- Younger students may find it challenging to draw full stick figures. Simplify the activity by focusing on faces or single figures.
- Alternatively, use the traceable student book to ensure younger students can participate effectively.
Teaching the Lessons
Timeline Review Page
- Starting with Lesson 2, students will review the last few timeline characters or events at the beginning of each lesson.
- Students will draw a picture above the title of each character or event.
- Every 2–3 lessons, review the entire timeline up to the current point to reinforce learning and challenge students.
Lesson Pages
- Starting the lesson by reading or having a student read the passage for the first box in the study. You can assign reading all at one time or as you go through the lesson.
- After the reading discuss the passage while you draw the picture in the book for the students.
- Students then stick figure their pictures into the Student book
- If time allows, encourage students to add to their drawings.
The more they draw the more they remember!
Memory Verse Review
- After the timeline review, revisit up to three previous memory verses.
- Students can review verbally, write the verses out, or use stick figuring to reinforce memory.
