April on our calendar coincides this year with the first month on the biblical calendar — Nisan. Today, let's look back at what God has done in history as we watch current history being written.

Nisan is full of holidays: Passover, Feast of Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits. On the Christian calendar we have Holy Week culminating in the wonderful celebration of the Resurrection! Get ready to mark your calendar!

April 1 Nisan 14

Feast The First Passover

On the evening of Nisan 14, the Hebrews living in Egypt killed their lambs, put blood on their doors, and ate their Passover meals.

Leviticus 23:5

Old Testament Plague of the Firstborn

On this night, every firstborn living in a home without the blood of the lamb on its doors died.

April 2 Nisan 15

Old Testament The Exodus from Egypt

Following the death of his son, Pharaoh ordered the Hebrews to leave Egypt. On Nisan 15 the children of Israel departed from Egypt for the Promised Land.

Holy Thursday commemorates the last meal Jesus shared with His disciples before His crucifixion.

Feast Passover

The first of four spring feasts on the biblical calendar. Both Jews and Christians celebrate God's deliverance of the Hebrews from Egypt — and believers are reminded of deliverance from sin by the blood of the Lamb of God!

The second spring feast begins today and continues for seven days.

Feast Feast of First Fruits

The third biblical spring feast, celebrated the first day after the first Sabbath after Passover. This was a time to offer the first fruits of the spring harvest.

Christian Good Friday

Also known as Holy Friday or Great Friday. This is the day Jesus was beaten, crucified, died, and was buried. For some, this is a day of fasting.

Christian šŸŽ‰ Resurrection Day

On this glorious day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead! He is Risen!

April 8 Nisan 21

Old Testament Red Sea Crossing

The Lord opened the Red Sea before the children of Israel, and they went through on dry ground in 1312 BC. The army of Egypt was drowned as they pursued the Hebrews into the sea.

April 9 Nisan 22

Feast Feast of Unleavened Bread Ends

The seven-day Feast of Unleavened Bread concludes today. During this week unleavened bread is eaten to remember that the Hebrews left Egypt so quickly their bread did not have time to rise.

Old Testament Jericho March Begins

On Nisan 22, 1272 BC, Jewish history records that Joshua and his men began their march around the city of Jericho — marching for seven days total.

Old Testament Waters of Marah

According to Jewish history, this is the date the children of Israel camped at the bitter waters of Marah in 1312 BC. God told Moses how to make the bitter waters sweet.

New Testament Jesus Appears to His Disciples

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples, showed them the scars on His hands and feet, and ate with them.

April 13 Nisan 26

Old Testament Death of Joshua

Today marks the traditional date of the death of Joshua, son of Nun — disciple of Moses and leader of the children of Israel. Joshua lived to be 110 years old and is buried in the hill country of Ephraim.

April 16 Nisan 29

Old Testament Jericho Falls

After Joshua and his men walked around the walls of Jericho for seven days, God brought down the walls of Jericho on Nisan 29, according to Jewish history.

Old Testament Census of Israel

The Lord instructed Moses to take a census of the children of Israel the second year after leaving Egypt. Moses counted all the men aged 20 and older by tribe. Since this was a census for men of war, the Levites were excluded.

Old Testament Second Temple Construction Begins

The building of the Second Temple began in Jerusalem by Zerubbabel and those who returned from captivity in Babylon. It was built on the exact location of the First Temple.

Old Testament First Temple Foundation Laid

The Bible records this as the start of building the First Temple. The foundation was laid on the land purchased by King David and the traditional location of the binding of Isaac.

2 Chronicles 3:2

New Testament Jesus Appears at the Sea of Galilee

After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to seven of His disciples while they were fishing on the Sea of Galilee.

John 21:1

April 26 Iyar 9

Old Testament Joseph's Dream

According to Jewish tradition, this is the date God gave Joseph the dream where the sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed before him.

April 27 Iyar 10

Old Testament Death of Eli the Priest

On this day, Eli the Priest died after receiving word that his sons were dead. Eli had lived at Shiloh, helped with the work of the Tabernacle, and raised the prophet Samuel.
