Mothers Related to Jesus in the Bible

Written by Dianna on .

Have you married into a family of believers, but things are far from perfect? Are you waiting for God to move in the heart of your unbelieving spouse? Maybe you are fearful that your children will fail to walk with God despite all that you have taught them! You may even be the first in your family to believe, and God will use you to bring many of your family and friends with you into the faith.

It is interesting to note that there are five women listed in the genealogy of Jesus found in Matthew 1. Each one of them had some imperfections, yet God chose them to be a part of Jesus’ lineage. Take heart as you read about these women, because they are like you and me, imperfect but chosen. They were not perfect, they made mistakes, but they all had faith in the God who forgave them and used them as part of His plan of redemption. Let’s take a look!

Tamar: Patience Tamar, married into a godly family, but experienced the loss of her first and second husbands. Because of fear, her life was placed on hold, yet God eventually blessed her with twin sons. Despite her challenging circumstances, Tamar remained faithful, illustrating the importance of patience as we wait upon the Lord.

Rahab: Faith Rahab came from a non-believing home and was involved in the darkness of the world until she heard about the Lord. Believing in the one true God, she became part of those who love and serve God. Rahab’s story gives hope to those who have made regrettable choices, showing that faith can lead to redemption and salvation.

Ruth: Kindness Ruth married into a loving family but experienced barrenness and loss. Moving to a foreign country with her mother-in-law Naomi, she displayed unwavering kindness and loyalty, ultimately being blessed with a husband who extended love, care, and protection. Ruth’s life teaches us the importance of displaying kindness to others in all circumstances.

Bathsheba: Strength Bathsheba was involved in an adulteress relationship, and then faced the loss of a husband, followed soon after, with the loss of a child. Despite these hardships, she raised three sons, one of whom became the next king of Israel, Solomon. Bathsheba’s story exemplifies strength in the face of trials, showing that reliance upon the Lord can bring us through even the darkest of times.

Mary: Bravery Mary, was raised in a religious home, and bravely obeyed God’s call, even when it could have cost her life. From the conception of Jesus before her marriage to Joseph to witnessing His crucifixion, Mary demonstrated unwavering faith and bravery. Her life encourages us to trust in God’s plan and obey Him, regardless of the circumstances.

As we reflect on the lives of these mothers related to Jesus, we see that God used each of them for an eternal purpose, despite their imperfections. Just as they were called to play a role in their generation, it is now our turn to make an impact in ours. Let us set an example to those around us as a faithful witness, demonstrating strength and bravery, while trusting in God’s plan as we navigate life’s challenges and opportunities.
